The West Essex Regional High School Graduation Ceremony will be held on Friday, June 21 at 6:00 p.m.  This culminating event will be a proud and festive experience for all participating seniors, their families, our entire staff and the West Essex community.

We educators look forward to our final days with the Class of 2019 and to seeing all graduates and their families on June 21.

COMMENCEMENT STANDARDS AND PROCEDURES

  1. Students will each receive six (6) tickets with their caps and gowns.  Weather permitting, the graduation ceremony will be outdoors at the West Essex stadium (Travis Field) and tickets are not needed.  In the event of rain, the three (3) black tickets may be used for admittance to the gymnasium where the ceremony will occur.  The other three (3) red tickets may be used for admittance to the auditorium for viewing a live stream of the ceremony.  Black and red tickets indicate Gymnasium or Auditorium on the bottom.
  2. Surrounding airspace has been closed during ceremony hours for safety reasons.  Any purchased/rented flyover plane will not gain access to airspace within miles of campus.  Moreover, flyover planes are disruptive for hundreds of other graduating students and their families.  Drones are also prohibited pursuant to FAA regulations.
  3. Parking on West Essex campus will be very limited.  Arrangements have been made for off-site parking at 155 Passaic Avenue with shuttle busses beginning at 4:45 p.m. to take families onto the campus.
  4. Handicapped parking is available on campus.  Handicapped seating is available on the track.  Golf carts will transport the elderly and the handicapped between parking and the stadium throughout the event.  Parking attendants are happy to assist and direct you.
  5. Commencement will be livestreamed for friends and family who are unable to attend.  The link for the livestream will be on our website and social media platforms.
  6. Graduation practices for all seniors will be held on June 19, 20 and 21 at 7:45 a.m.  Attendance is mandatory.  Seniors must report on time for all scheduled rehearsals.  Seniors who are absent from rehearsal will not be permitted to participate in the ceremony unless the absence is excused by the Principal.  Standard shared space parking rules apply.
  7. All fines must be paid and all obligations must be met in order to participate in graduation exercises.  The deadline for fine payments and meeting of obligations is Wednesday, June 19.  Caps and gowns and graduation tickets will be withheld if fines are not paid.
  8. Seniors must report to the gymnasium by 4:30 p.m. on the day of graduation.  Seniors must park in the bus lanes.
  9. Caps and gowns must be worn to graduation.  The academic gown should be pressed.  Seniors should wear the following attire with their gowns:

Women:  Skirts and blouses or dresses that do not extend below the gown.  Slacks may be worn.  White or light colored shoes are to be worn.  Jeans may not be worn.  HEELS WILL DAMAGE THE TURF AND ARE NOT PERMITTED ON THE FIELD.

Men:  Dark trousers (black, blue, gray or brown), white or light colored shirt with tie and dress shoes must be worn.  Jeans may not be worn

Flowers or decorations of any kind may not be worn on caps and gowns.  Any senior who fails to fulfill the dress standard established for the ceremony will not be allowed to participate.

  1. All guests attending graduation will be required to remain in the grandstand.  There will be a row of chairs on the track reserved for the handicapped and/or elderly.  Both the home and visitor bleachers will be used.  Please check with your son/daughter for the side of the field that he/she will be sitting on for that day.
  2. Proper applause by guests is welcomed.  However, special noisemakers are not permitted.  Fireworks, balloons, cowbells, whistles, or horns are strictly prohibited.
