Ms. Vaknin at the U.S. Court of Appeals

Ms.Beth Vaknin was awarded a grant to study in Philadelphia this summer. She has shared some of that experience with us: "This summer I was awarded a grant, through the National Endowment for the Humanities, to undertake a study the First Amendment and the Supreme Court. The program was run through the Rendell Center for Civics and Civic Engagement and held in Philadelphia at the National Constitution Center. For a week in July I worked with 30 other teachers and other professionals to work through the Court’s treatment of First Amendment cases.  The program included sessions with our lead professor, Bruce Allen Murphy, a constitutional law scholar from Lafayette College, tours of historic sites in Philadelphia, sessions with other scholars, and access to our home base, the National Constitution Center. One of the highlights was a moot court held at the U.S Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. (There’s me arguing in front of the court!) I’m really looking forward to bringing what I’ve learned to my students."
