West Essex High School is happy to announce the recipients of the ShopRite Star awards for Marking Period 2.
Meadow Doerr has received the ShopRite Star award for The Arts! After receiving the highest marks possible on her Advanced Placement Studio Art Exam, Meadow is now enrolled in her second straight year of the course. She constantly challenges herself and always thinks through complicated questions that guide the concepts of her artwork. She is then able to employ those incredibly poignant ideas into reality with her incredible command of technique. Further, Meadow is an integral member of the Stage Crew where she mentors younger members. Congratulations, Meadow!
Anthony Drago has received the ShopRite Star award for Athletics! Anthony is a multi-sport athlete (Football and Lacrosse) and one of the top recruits of 2025. He was a Senior Captain for the FB team this year. Anthony was a 3-way starter, and led the team in receptions, receiving yards, and tackles, in addition to being the team’s punter. For Lacrosse, he was ranked the #3 overall player in the country on Inside Lacrosse’s Top 100 Seniors list. Drago recently committed to playing Lacrosse at the prestigious Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. Congratulations, Anthony!
Kylie McCarthy has received the ShopRite Star award for Leadership! Kylie is a WE Unite Peer Leader, helping freshmen navigate the ins-and-outs of HS. She is incredibly dedicated to the program, always taking initiative to improve the program, mentoring her students, and making a positive impact on the school community. Kylie sets a positive example for her peers. Wherever she goes, she aims to create a welcoming environment where others are motivated to participate and contribute. Congratulations, Kylie!
Melilah Sanchez has received the ShopRite Star award for Service to the Community! Melilah is driven and compassionate. She is an active volunteer for PKDO (Polycystic Kidney Disease Outreach) and TEEEM (The Empathy, Equality, & Entrepreneurship Mission). For both organizations, she helps organize events and fundraisers, and assists in social media management and promotion. Further, Melilah received the AP Scholar Award and the National Hispanic Recognition Program Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement . She has also received the Seal of Biliteracy in Spanish, and is incredibly dedicated to her language and culture. Congratulations, Melilah!
Julia Shamosh has received the ShopRite Star award for Academics! Julia ranks at the top of her class, maintaining her place on the High Honor Roll throughout her time at WE She is a member of the National Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society, National Science Honor Society, & National Math Honor Society. She is also the President of the Health & Wellness Club, Social Media Manager of the Spanish Club, and VP of Fundraising for the Fashion Club. Further, she is a member of the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) as a member of the HS National Academics Squad and HS Scholars of Distinction Squad. Julia is also a member of the Lacrosse team. Congratulations, Julia!
