Library

Welcome to the West Essex High School Library!
Our inquiry-based, student-centered, future-ready library media center is committed to building a school-wide culture of multimodal literacy that inspires students to read deeply, think critically, research skillfully, and produce and engage with media ethically as they prepare for college and career.
Visiting the Library: A Few Gentle Reminders
- The Library is a shared, safe, and inclusive space accessible to everybody in our learning community.
- Outside of instructional time, students are encouraged to use the Library for study, research, and recreational reading.
- Regardless of the time or reason, every student must scan their ID card to enter the Library.
- Students must scan out when leaving for any reason, then scan back in upon return.
Library Etiquette
- If you need help with anything—anything!—just ask.
- During instructional time, work quietly. Do not disturb in-session classes or other library users.
- Independent visitors may use their phones so long as devices remain silent. Students attending class in the library are not permitted to use their phones.
- Bottled water is permissible; food and other beverages are prohibited.
- Strive to return borrowed materials promptly.
- Clean up after yourself before leaving.
Class, Lunch, and Study Hall Visitors
- Students coming from a scheduled class must present a pass in their name from their assigned teacher.
- The librarian encourages lunchtime visitors to plan on eating in the cafeteria before or after stopping in. The librarian reserves the right to restrict the number of students entering during lunch.
- Students coming from Study Hall must remain in the Library for the rest of the period. The librarian reserves the right to restrict the number of students entering from study hall.
